    Pre-requisites

    Before installing Caption Translator, check the following:

  • Make sure you have Windows XP or later installed
  • Make sure your system is connected to the internet
  • Install Java 1.7 JRE
  • Install Chinese Simplified Fonts
  • Installation

    Click the above link to download Caption Translator. Run the self extracting installation and follow the instructions to install Caption Translator on your Windows machine.

    Getting started

  • Click the Capture Area (Camera) icon
  • Re-size and re-position the screen capture dialog to cover some chinese text
  • Click OK
  • Caption Translator will scan the selected area for Chinese characters, translate the characters into English and output the results
  • Snap-shot mode

    Continue to click the Capture Area (Camera) icon to translate other captions on your screen.

    Subtitle mode

  • Click the Capture Area (Camera) icon
  • Re-size and re-position the screen capture dialog to cover the area where Chinese subtitles are displayed
  • Click OK
  • Play your movie
  • Click the Start icon and the subtitle translation will start.
  • Click the Pause icon to stop translation.
  • Click the Clear icon to clear the translation history.
  • Trouble Shooting

    The following describes some common problems and their solution

    1. On start-up receoive a message about an old JRE: Check the installed JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and that java.exe is in the system PATH.
    2. Chinese text shows as square boxes: Need to install chinese fonts correctly
    3. Translations are difficult to understand or meaningless: This could be one of several things:
